“Candace Keevil is changing my life. My name is Josh Ragsdale and I am an ectomorph.
I have been training with Candace for about 8 months now. Before I began training with her, I had already been weightlifting for over 3 years. In the beginning I was super skinny, and I slowly became slightly less skinny. However, after the first two years or so I hit my plateau. I kept weighing in around 170lbs, and not only was my weight stuck there but my strength was not increasing.
Then life threw me a few curve balls. I caught the stomach flu really bad. After that week I had dropped 8 pounds. After several more months training and hundreds of dollars spent on supplements I had returned to 170lbs. Then my appendix went out on me. I was unable to workout for over a month, and I lost my appetite too. I dropped down to about 158lbs. This was one of the most frustrating times of my life.
A few more months went by and I gradually got back up to 170lbs. Then the worst thing of all… a terrible car accident. I was out of commission for months. My car was totaled. My back was seriously injured. I did months and months of physical therapy. I started seeing a chiropractor and I still am. I had to ease back into my training ever so slowly. I felt weak and useless. It seemed as though every time I would start making progress the universe intervened.
Shortly after I returned to work after being absent for close to two months, I was able to upgrade to a full time position. With this extra income I decided to look for a personal trainer. Candace came highly recommended to me by my best friend, my neighbor, and my chiropractor, so I gave her a shot. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I weigh 192 lbs right now and I am still climbing. She has pushed me further than I could have ever pushed myself. Her knowledge of how the body works and responds to working out is incredible. Turns out, I was not eating enough and I was not training correctly. I kept reading articles online about hypertrophy and how lots of weight and low reps was the best thing you could possibly do to increase your muscle size. Little did I know that I was skipping a few key phases and setting myself up for a serious injury.
With Candace’s help, I have gained 20 pounds now and grown much stronger. I told her I wanted to hit 200lbs and be done. She disagreed. Candace said she wants me to shoot for 220 and do a bodybuilding competition. I had never even dreamed of being able to compete in this sport, but with her constant unwavering support, I think one day I will be able to.
